CPCS A40 Slinger Signaller

What is the course?

The beginner course is developed for those with little to no prior experience and takes place over four days, with a three-day course open to intermediate / semi-experienced operatives, and a two-day course for experienced professionals requiring refresher training.

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

Teaching of the CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller Course is carried out through a combination of classroom discussion and practical, hands-on instruction. Participants are assessed at the end of the course on both their theoretical and practical competency.

Who Should Take This Course?

The course is suitable for both trainee and experienced slinger/signaller professionals. No prior knowledge or training is required to attend the course.

The course includes instruction in several areas, specific to the subtypes of machinery:

  • A40A: All Types – All Duties
  • A40B: All Types – Static Duties
  • A40C: Knuckle Boom – Static Duties Only
  • A40D: Excavator only
  • A40E: Lift truck only

What Qualification Will I Receive?

Upon finishing the course, participants will be accredited with a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (subject to successful completion of the CPCS technical Tests). Participants will in addition receive a CITB National Construction College Certificate.

Entry Requirements

All course participants should hold a current and valid CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) accreditation, attained within the previous two years. Participants are expected to have a good level of fluency in both spoken and written English.

  • Correct methods for assessing the dimensions and weight of loads, and required terminology for communicating with crane operators.
  • How to select the correct lifting tackle; how to securely attach and detach the equipment
  • Use of clear and unambiguous signals to direct crane operators working with various weights and dimensions
  • Correct procedures for storage and maintenance of lifting equipment and how to correctly assess the condition of equipment and apparatus
