What is the course?

The course is designed for professionals who are responsible for lifting operations of any kind and it is taught over the course of five days which include the CPCS Technical Tests as well.

How is the Course Taught and Assessed?

The course is taught through a combination of classroom-based discussions and practice exercises. After the course of five days, there will be a theoretical and a practical assessment of what you’ve learnt.

Who should take this course?

The course is meant for supervisors and managers in charge of planning and executing lifting operations of various kinds.

What Qualifications Will I Receive?

Upon successful completion of the course, the participating operators will be awarded with a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card. Note: the participants who already hold the CPCS Code A40 Slinger/Signaller certification, will also be awarded with the CPCS Code A62 Crane Supervisor qualification.

Entry Requirements

The applicants must meet the requirements that are included in the British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes. Applicants are also required to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test within the last two years. A good level in spoken and written English is also required.

What Can I Do Next?

Upon successfully completing the course, all the applicants are able to earn the Level 5 Appointed Persons NVQ/SVQ and after that a Blue Competent Operator Card.

  • How to properly follow safe systems of work (inc. method statements)
  • Taking personal responsibility
  • Relevant crane terminology
  • Thorough understanding of crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
  • Taught to appreciate tower cranes
  • Acknowledge the importance of the role of appointed persons
  • How to plan a lift
  • Efficient observation, comprehension and application of sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of British Standard 7121
